Playing with flash

We had some fun at the local camera club tonight we were exploring the possibilities of focal plane flash, this technique is used to freeze motion with the flashgun, it is achieved by having a short flash duration emitted from the flashgun and using the F stops to control the light being let into the camera, this means the shutter speed can be taken out of the exposure triangle equation.

I often use part of this technique when I am shooting a first dance at a wedding minus the water of course, it enables me to drag the shutter and creatively capture the lights from the disco and freeze the Bride and groom on the dance floor.
